Is it better to have a dark or a light colored wall behind my32" lcd tv, or does it matter? Wife wants me to paint the room. She wants lavender

A flaming red wall with a 60" all black bezel plasma should be eye catchin'

Oh pappy . . . shame on you

But seriously, dark is better in terms of "home theater" experience.
For best viewing, you don't want either a lot of light or a lot of reflecting surfaces.

A medium to light gray is supposed to be best. I read it somewhere and don't really know if it's true, but that's what I read.

I'm sure that some videophile, hi-tech D65 junkie came up with that; and it may very well be correct at some nth degree of hair splitting.

But thinking back on all the theaters that I've been in in my life, I've never been in one that was painted any shade of gray.
But, by golly, they were all dark . . . usually red, maroon, or . . . hey, even dark lavender!

Does anyone remember what was said on the DVE (Digital Video Essentials) set up/calibration disc ?

I thought it said something about having the backdrop of your home theatre viewing area an ambient light shade or something like that.
If it is too dark it will actually give you an inaccurate contrast or color scheme. I can't remember exactly what it was all about but it went against the belief that a pitch black room will give the best picture.

If you can still see the wall, your screen isn't big enough.
