Default Playing an ISO Image

Yes I know, the answer is probably somewhere here on this forum.

The program I can use to produce a Blu-ray disc (Producer 4) also has the option to output to an ISO image. So playing it before burning would seem to be a good idea.

I have the VLC media player and the 321 Media player and obviously something else is required because all I get is a jumbled up mess.

Maybe someone here could guide me in what is needed and how I might then be able to see what I have authored. Initially I would prefer not to outlay any money so a freebee would be nice if there is such a thing. "Learn a bit first and then make the decisions that involve money!"

Thanks a lot.

Couldn't you just grab something like DaemonTools or PowerISO or MagicISO and mount the ISO as a virtual drive and then play it back with whatever playback program you're using?

Hi Pinoy

Wish it was that easy, or at least it does not seem to be that easy:

I mount the Blu-ray image and then when trying to open it in say VCL player I get.

"Windows cannot read from this disk. ..... it could be using a format that is not compatible"

My system is XP SP3.

PowerISO for example shows the following folder structure:

Proshow_Blueray / BDMV which has 8 folders the last of which is /Steam with files 00000.m2ts and 00001.m2s within

All efforts to play result in the same message.

Ah well, as usual, guess its all to hard.

You need a Blu-ray software player. VLC afaik can't play Blu-rays yet. Usually Cyberlink (PowerDVD), WinDVD and Arcsoft are offering software players, that can also playback Blu-ray. Sorry, there are no freeware/open source BD players yet afaik.

Then as Pinoy said: mount the ISO with something like DaemonTools or some other virtual drive programm and play the BD with the software player.

Hi Nicopol, thanks
I was just at that conclusion without knowing it (just having a cup of coffee) as I have no problems playing DVD's in VCL from a DVD or from a mounted ISO file

Will try PowerDVD and or WinDVD

Well I downloaded PowerDVD all 125M of it and it could not play the Blue-ray ISO file when mounted on the virtual drive - same not able to read message as mentioned above. Had no trouble playing standard DVD ISO file so I am stuck. Typical.

Guess I need to update the burner to Blu-ray and do what I did not want to do - burn a disk before looking at it and checking the navigation first. Nothing was ment to be easy!

Cheers

could you post the hardware specs of your computer? try doing Cyberlink's BD Advisor in order to see if there are any holes in your system preventing you from playing the movies. A few video card requirements are needed to be met in order to get playback.

If you pass the BD Advisor, try opening just one of the .M2TS files instead of loading the entire movie folder. I do this with Arcsoft's player.

Sorry to hear that. A Blu-ray burner alone will change nothing about your system's ability to playback Blu-rays from folders.

Did you get a PowerDVD version, that can actually play Blu-rays? Which version number did you get? PowerDVD 8 Ultra? PowerDVD9Ultra? There are many "PowerDVD" versions, that can only play DVDs:

http://www.cyberlink.com/prog/produc...Id=1&Cat_Id=12

Since you authored your Blu-ray on your own, there will be no copy protection AACS/BD+ on your disc. But like Dexter said, post your pc's specs.

This business of playing a Blu-ray ISO file has gotten pretty sticky.

I have been "talking" to the editing program provider and he sent me to another forum which was also trying to deal with the same issue in XP.

XP or W2k have no support for Blu-ray and one needs to instal a UDF driver that was available via a link in the thread on the other forum.

It has not solve the problem totally I can manually play the m2ts files without sound but not the full image in any player including PowerDVD which plays stuff with a poor image compared with VLC or 321

Exporting a file specifically in HD and playing it with sound was not a problem even before I installed the driver. I need to be able to play a Blu-ray image as a check of my workup. No purchases of anything associated with Blu-ray or HD until this is solved.

I did run the PowerDVD check and my system is not up to scratch to play a Blu-ray disc. I do not want to do that on a COMPUTER.

I need to check the navigation etc etc from an ISO image first and then do a burn for playing from a BD disc player. I do that with ordinary DVD's indeed my system will play a DVD to a professional level monitor via the Hollywood Plus card. It will not of course play a Blu-ray disc that way, hence the need to use an ISO image.

If I find the answers from either the software provider or the other forum I will post the results in this thread.
