Default Looking for Help HD/Blue Ray

Problem:

Unable to receive HD-Video from blue ray to TV.

Components:

Blue Ray Player: Sony BDP-BX1 (HDCP supported)
Television: Sony KP-65WS500 (HDCP Supported via DVI)
HDMI-DVI Adapter: Philips Adapter SWV3459W HDMI (F) - DVI (M)

Information:

When first hooked up the video worked great through the DVI adapter (didn't pay attention to boot up order). After a few boot down/up's the video stopped working. When ever we boot up the player we get the loading screen (via hdmi/dvi), then when it goes to play the screen blinks, and then goes blank. (Audio works).

Have researched HDCP quite extensively and have done every boot sequence known to man. (yes unplugging from the wall, and also tried just powering down).

Have tried resetting to factory default for both on all the boot sequences as well.

The audio is hooked up to a sony home theatre through the L/R audio cables (have tried with and without these for boot up sequences as well).

Have tried sony support (what a joke).

RCA and video/audio cables do work.

Thoughts:

It makes no sense to me that it would work for the first 30 minutes, then upon several power up/downs of either devices that in no possible way can we get the video back.

Current assumption is the adapter, as both the tv and player are HDCP compatible. Another is that they, for what ever reason, can not get a handshake (outside of boot sequence, is there a clear way to tell if they are handshake or not?).

And just to reiterate, the loading screen DOES work after booting up the player, so the video cables all DO work, just lose the picture after a dvd starts up.

Anyones help would greatly be appreciated, this post is my last cry for help as i have tried everything in my knowledge base and am reaching out for other peoples experiences.

Thanks you,

Snoobish

Sorry, based on your info, no definitive answer; but based on what you've said, I'd say it's time to return the BDP-BX1 and either try another one or a different player.

You have a brilliant BD Player, but you are not doing it any justice with your old Rear Pro.

Your problem is the TV does not have HDMI. Instead you are using an HDMI cable from your BD player to the DVI input of your TV.

Thats completely wrong, because your are now down converting the HD signal, thats why when the movie starts the screen goes blank.

Your BD Player outputs 1080p over HDMI, and your TV can only handle resolution up to 720p. For Analogue sources that will work fine, but not for Blu-Ray.

All i can recommend is you buy a set of good quality Component cables, and use that instead, but then you will only get 576p. So i think you gonna have to bite the bullet and buy a LCD.

I have a couple issues with this. First, you imply that using DVI down converts the signal. That's not correct. DVI is capable of 1080p just like HDMI. The TV may not, but that's not what you said.

Second, there is absolutely nothing wrong with 720p for BD. That's not the reason the TV is not showing an image. There is something else going on here.

If it still doesn't work, maybe the DVI port on the TV is having problems.

That, as mob has pointed out hardly has anthing to do with the OPs problems.

Also, you seem to be overlooking the fact that the OP reported that "When first hooked up the video worked great through the DVI adapter . . ."; according to your analysis it would have never worked.

He really ought to take it back and exchange it, or have the store check it out, or try it on a friend's TV.

Do you have another HDMI device that you can hookup in the BD's place. If that device doesn't work, then it's not the BD player.

I'm guessing from the model number that you bought it from Costco, Sams or BJ's. They have a very liberal return policy if you find that it's the BD player.
