Not sure if this is the correct place to post this, please move it if not.
I'm in the market for a low-end 5.1 surround sound system and am looking for suggestions. I have: Vizio 42" 720p Plasma TV (3 HDMI inputs) PS3 40g (1 HDMI out) XBox 360 Elite (1 HDMI out) DirecTV DVR box I'd like some suggestions as to what to buy. I have no problem buying seperate components and putting it all together myself. I am in no need of outrageous equipment, just something basic. |

As far a "low end" goes... What price range are you looking at? Any specific features you want to have like lossless Dolby True HD with you BD/PS3.. Would you like/require HDMI (non passthrough) or is optcal/toslink fine..

No clue what most of that meant, so I'll just answer the part regarding the price range I'm willing to spend.....
Let's say.....$500-750 MAX, including all speakers, cables, etc. |

LOL.. Sorry.. Well, I would recommend the Onkyo HTS6100 system. I comes with all you need including speaker wire (but I would recommend upgrading it). It has 4 1.3a HDMI inputs so you can connect your 360 and PS3 and DTV DVR to it all via HDMI (if you DTV box has it). It will do it Dolby True HD and DTS HD-MA for PS3 and Blue Rays. It can be had at CC for around $699, but can be found cheaper on the web like amazon and stuff for around $600.. If HDMI and Dolby True HD is not desired or even understood, you can get the Onkyo 5100 system for around $450 and just connect all 3 devices to the receiver via optical toslink.. Both are great options.

If you go with the 6100 or another HDMI receiver like it, you will need 3 or 4 HDMI cables. You can get them here for around $7 a piece. And a 100 ft. roll 16 awg speaker wire for around $12. http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2

After a bit of searching around I had come back to post that I figured I'd get exactly that system after seeing it suggested in the surround sound forum (where this should have been =P)
And I know all about monoprice. =) I've gotten cables from them before. Thanks for your help. =) |
