Default Starting from scratch

Building a new home. Certainly not an audiophile/videophile. Want to be able to watch sports and occasional movie in family room and want to set up whole house audio for background music. I am amazed at the level of detailed information so many possess here. I am in no what that advanced and I am just looking for solid equipment and good value.

A local high-end retailer has some gear on close-out..older models, etc..Please let me know what you think about the below items. One last point..we currently watch all our tv on a 10 year old JVC and use the speakers within for the sound. That is the point of reference here.

Yamaha RX v861 - $349.00
Samsung BDP1400 Blu Ray - $142.00
Panasonic 50" 1080 Plasma - $1189.00
Pro Solutions in wall and in celing speakers - 60-120 per pair.

Any thoughts?

Have a BD-p1400 very happy with it knowing it is profile 1 and doesn't do pip and 'BD live' internet but it plays all my discs without any probs and pq is great. I would replace the yamaha v861 with an onkyo tx-sr606 which you should be able to find for $350 and is feature rich and decodes the newer lossless codecs which the yamaha 861 does not. I think you will be much happier that way. Panasonic plasmas are known to be of good quality - don't know much about those speakes but if they sound good to you then enjoy.

Does the newer Samsung BDP1500 fill the void you mention?

Thanks

Here's a link for a 42" 1080p Panasonic Plasma and a free higher end Panny Blu-Ray player.

The Yamaha seems good for the price.

I don't have any experience with in-wall speakers, so I can't comment on those.

What's the model number of the Panasonic tv? Sounds like you might have an opportunity to come out smelling like a rose.
