Default How Does This Occur?

I have been watching the HBO show, "The Wire" since the beginning. The last season concluded, but there is something that has been bothering me.

Perhaps there's a simple explanation for it.
When watching the shows previous previews, they appear to be in HD or at the very least 16.9.

When watching the program it is in SD.

It seems to me if the previews can be in HD/16.9, why not the whole show, it has the ability, yes?

Also the show is only available on SD DVD.

Maybe HBO films didn't drop the additional cash to press the dvd's in widescreen?
~I'm not sure if its even more expensive to produce in widescreen..

I have no idea....Very Odd IMO.

Thanks for posting, I thought it was very odd too.

It has been bugging me since I got my Tv in late Dec.

Maybe it's just stretched, but they don't look stretched.
I may have to write HBO, or post on a Wire messageboard. I will let you know.'

Thanks

I was thinking that it did not look stretched either, maybe it's just upconverted. Why do that to just the previews though?

HBO is notorious for stretching 4:3 (old school full screen) content.

I have the same problem with their shows and movies.

Is it older episodes that are giving you the problem? Or newer ones too.

See that's just it, it's only the last season of, "The Wire".
The show has been on for 5 yrs. HBO did alot of, The Sopranos in HD.

Like someone already said, why upconvert just the previews? This is buggin the hell out of me now, grrrr lol.
