So you have an LG but hate it? Alrighty then...
There is no bulb to replace, as it is a plasma and by design, they do not have "bulbs." Since you are talking about lines on then screen, most likely a row of red pixels/thin line, what you may need replaced is a board. I'll assume it's not under warranty and you may be looking at a few hundred dollars to replace a board as a ballpark figure. It's time to call and get a service tech out to your residence. |

Were you able to get it fixed as I took it to the local LG dealer and he gave be an estimate of $700.00. It is not worth to spend $700.00 on this two year old Plasma when I can buy a new for $900.00. I would just like to buy the defective board and replace it my self if possable. Please help and let me know if some one has done this as this seams to be a common problem with LG units. Thanks |

Hello - I've now worked on two LG DU-42PX12X plasmas that had the same problem. The main logic control board, 6870QCH003A, has bad solder flow which causes parts to be intermittent. The only solutions I've found is to either completely replace the board (which is hard to come by since it is discontinued) or to resolder components around the main processor. A reflow is what is really needed, but I didn't have access to that kind of equipment. They are all micro SMD components, tough to solder yourself without proper equipment.
With the TV partially disassembled so you have access to the board under the input boards, you can put pressure on some of the surface mount components on the control board and the lines will usually go away... those are the components with bad solder joints. I really believe LG should have a recall on these boards, but now its over 2 years old and good luck with that. |

kdawg22-
How did the repair on the LG DU-42PX12X work out? I am looking at one that has the same problem and am trying to decide whether to buy it for parts or to fix it for my own use. Is this a "run away, run away" tv or is it worth considering? If it's worth considering, at what price should I try to get it for?...$25, $50, $75, $100? |

I know this post is old,
But I had the same problem. I was able to fix it. Heres a write up I did on the "How To". I added pictures and diagrams too. http://jasonkoller.blogspot.com/2011...ma-tv-fix.html |
