Default HD problems with TV or Signal?

When whatever I am watching switches scenes for a split second you can see something that looks like the picture being put together and slapped up on the screen. I do not know if this is the tv or my cable box. I have SONY KDL-40V3000 and a scientific explorer 6300 comcast DVR box. Please help it is driving me crazy and if it the tv I only have a few days to take it back. It is no pixelating it is something different and very quick. Just think of a digital picture slowing showing up. Starting from when you take it and slowly becoming more and more clear.

What you describe seems to be a cable box issue.

Yep-cable company signal. Had this somewhat frequently when I first got my 42inch LCD. Now it is very seldom that it happens. I just can`t picture(no pun intended) the TV acting like a yoyo having good days and bad days. But the cable company? Oh,yes. Also,I`m betting it`s worse on some channels than others-correct?

Generally, no because when they master DVDs, they will eliminate such problems. I say generally because there is always a possibility that something could cause the effect you describe like flaky cables.

The difference is the encoding is done on the fly for broadcast video, whereas the encoding is done and tested before the DVDs are made so if an issue come up it can be corrected prior to the final release of the DVD.

Another thing to consider is the DVDs will be 720x480 resolution vs 1280x720 or 1920x1080 for broadcast HD video.

N00b here.

I came across this thread and I am also having the same problem. I just bought a KDL-52v5100 yesterday. Setup the HD cable box and all that jazz.

When my set seems to do this, I noticed it will change the display from say 480i to 1080i HD. While doing this there is a slight lag/black screen while the change of display takes place....

Welcome to the forum!

If you are noticing this and are using HDMI this is likely because of the HDCP (copy protection) built into the HDMI specs. It generally takes longer for the TV to sync when the resolution changes and also the new HDCP handshake to finish. You could try component (red/green/blue) cables (not to be confused with composite which is red/white/yellow which is only for poor SD resolutions). For component you will have to run the separate audio though from the cable box.

Hope this helps!

Thanks. I do have it currently hooked up with component cables through the cable box. Does HDMI have any advantage over the component?

Not really except audio is carried in the same cable. No picture quality difference though.
