Default Can Chrome II unit play Metal IV cassettes?

I've got a Chrome (type 2) player in my car. Can I play back Metal (type 4) cassettes without destroying the head?

So:

Nobody knows that answer? Guess I'll just risk destroying my car's deck by shoving a metal tape into it & see what happens.

That was my thinking as well, but then I thought, "Maybe chrome is more like oxide tape, and thus a softer type of material."

BTW:

Does anyone still make Metal type IV recorders?

Not so. So-called "chrome" tape is an oxide tape. The major component is chromium dioxide.

No. Type IV Metal tape uses unoxidised metal particles that are treated to prevent oxidation.

FYI, the orignal magnetic tapes made by BASF were metal particle tapes, but they tended to oxidise. The switch to using ferric oxide for tapes in the early post-war years created a more consistent and reliable product.

Ahhh.... so a head designed to handle "iron rust" or "chromium rust" might not be able to handle the harder metal tape.

Hmmm.

Guess I'll sell my Metal tapes on ebay. I hear they're rare, so maybe I can recover my original purchase price.
