Default Question when using cable and HD antenna w/ diplexer

I am thinking about getting the 30" Samsung Slimfit for my new apt. It has an HD tuner built inside but only one coax connection in the back. My question is this, can I use a diplexer or any other combiner to send my cable signal as well as the antenna signal into this one coax input? Please tell me I don't have to use an A/B switcher. Thanks guys

The tuner in that set is a ATSC tuner - designed to be used with an outdoor antenna to pick up HD locals. It may pick up local HD channels from your cable if they don't scramble them. To see HD channels like UHD and Discovery HD Theater requires an HD "box" from the cable co.

I know what the tuner is and what it does. I'm only asking if I can combine both cable and antenna into one using a diplexer because it only has one coax input on the back of the tv. Im not subscribing to HD I just want local HD channels

If you only want locals then why both? Can you receive something on OTA that you can't get on cable in HD?

No, you can't. You're going to have to use the old A/B switch method. Of course, you can use a simple mechanical version (very inexpensive) or upgrade to an electronic switch with or without remote control (more expensive), but to do what you want to do, you must use an A/ B switch.
