Default One reason why home theaters will replace movie theaters

So the other day I saw a post that asked how long it'll be until movie theaters are gone...i stated never..now I believe it's actually sooner than later....here's my reasoning..

Last night my wife and I decided to just pick up and go see the new "License to Wed" movie...great movie...nice picture and sound...empty theater...so it was nice.

I got a large popcorn and large drink for my wife and I to share and a few minutes before the movie started we were wanting to get a refill on our drink to avoid missing the movie. I went out to get it and the lady at the counter staed, "sorry we don't do refills." I let her know that I thought it was dumb that I paid $5.00 for a drink that I get one serving of and are not able to get refills. She saw I was holding the bag of popcorn and stated we could get 1 refill of popcorn...i was like umm yea...and drink it down with what?

Soooooo even more reason for me to save the $20 I'd spend going to a movie and save it towards my future home theater.

That's because you're doing it wrong dude !

If you go to a theatre, you're suppose to have the chick sneak the drinks & popcorn etc. in her purse.

My wife and I see films regularly for less than $20 !

Besides that fountain stuff in the theatres goes right through me, and the popcorn (even though I never get butter) gives me a gut ach !

It won't happen in our lifetime.

Peace

Yea and to make things worse...the wife woke up last night at like 3:30 with a stomache...so guess who she thought needed to be awake too.....yep.....i was like FRICKING MOVIE THEATER!!

We've never had this happen before...it was $10 for the movie for the both of us then $10.25 for the popcorn and drink

Thumbs down

It had been years since I saw a film at a theater. This year I saw "300" and while the film is fantastic; sitting in the theater sucked. and It was a almost new high-end sort of place.

I haven't been to the theater near me for awhile. But the large popcorn and large soda's are free refills.

Regardless, I never get them as 1) I don't want to have to go to the bathroom during the movie and 2) I don't want to leave and get a refill during the movie which would then ulimately lead to #1

I think more people will start to enjoy movies at home. Eventually I could see releases being both theater and high def releases at the same time. It might actually encourage more buying of movies than renting.

The OPs reason isn't going to be the reason. It's going to have to be something else that sinks theaters.

well, if it's not the prices, it will be the cell phones ringing and the A-holes that text during the movie.

Those buggers have been around for a while doing that and so far no real indication that they will kill the theaters.

With all due respect to pappy's drinking problem....there will probably never come a day theaters go under. The industry is stronger than ever, and I doubt there will ever come a day everyone lives in a big enough house to create a theater (that compares to a commercial theater) of their own. While there are some that dont mind a little front projection system in the livingroom, there is still much more to be said about a monster screen and movie theater popcorn. Dont get me wrong, I have went so far as to create a 100"+ display in my livingroom, and bought a popcorn machine, but yet I still cant touch a cinema experience....and, dammit, my girlfriend knows it

There is probably only one thing that could lead to the end of theaters. Simultaneous releases.

If HD DVD's and Blu-ray's of the movie was available on release day, then there would be even less of a reason to go to the theater. But with the lag to be able to watch it at home, there are far too many people that won't wait.

This is being tried as we speak - by WB and Comcast. I can't remember if the cost was $39.95 or $49.95 for the "ticket."
