Default im just wondering....

Im just wondering if the quality of a movie in a movie theater is the same quality as in DVD? Do they use the MPEG-2 standard in a movie film or is it like in DV format? Im just talking about a regular theater, not IMAX cuz its obvious that imax uses something special.....

Provided that the film isn't all marked up from multiple showings the resolution of a movie in the Theater is much greater than that off blu-ray / hd-dvd or any other home medium and many times greater than dvd

This link shows the digital cinemas, started around 2005, have the ability to produce 2048 lines of horizontal resolution(2048X1080). The older style (DLP Projectors) were limited to 1280X1024. The current ones also show in 24 fps or 48 fps. Others have said many theaters have started to use 4k projectors. Note, this is NOT for the traditional movie theaters that use film. By what I have heard, there is no resolution standard number for film.

The following link shows IMaxHD uses two 2k projectors(the ones now used in movie theaters) that project over each other, may be resulting in a higher resolution. They did consider using 2 Sony 4k projectors but found that this usage did not produce any higher resolution than 1 4k projector.
