Default headaches from watching high def

Hi,
I got my Samsung LCD 26 inch tv about early January 2006. I have been watching standard def content through my tivo and dvds since. However, the weather has changed, so I recently decided to install a ota hd antenna. It works great and I get all the channels in high def that I wanted, however, after watching any high def channel for more than 10-15 minutes, I get bad headaches. I had never experienced headaches from my tv before. Watching standard def content does not give me these headaches. I do wear glasses. Do you think it is eyestrain causing this? I normally watch at 6 to 12 feet away. The distance away from the tv does not effect the headaches. Any ideas??

Thanks

Post You have to look after your eyes before HD means anything.

Yes could be eye strain.... also could be brightness... or other factors. A 26" shouldn't be a problem unless you're using it as a monitor 18" from your nose and it's bad resolution and too bright. Get your eyes checked... and tell the optometrist the exact distance from your nose to the screen and he'll make a specific prescription for that distance.

Single flourescent bulbs - such as used in magnifying drafting lamps cause those kind of headaches for me.-- The LCD HDTV has a flourescent backlight - try using an 75-100 watt incandescent lamp placed behind the LCD set to complement the LCD backlight and see if it helps.

You can also DIY. Go to Home Depot or Lowes and get a fixture and a 6500K fluorescent tube.

A few studies have shown that certain individuals will suffer this exact problem - HDM TVS (High Definition Migraine Television Viewing Syndrome) - the only solution is to immediately disconnect your HDTV, package it back up in the original shippng container, and mail it directly to my home address.

sorry, couldn't resist...

Post Eye strain is reduced when you close them.

There's also the intensity of watching factor.... HD is so nice, I find myself staring intently at silly stuff in awe of the imagery... I always wash dishes with SD in the background... easy on the eyes and hands (Palmolive).
