Well, only certain studios are expected to downgrade the resolution over a component or non-HDCP connection.

Which is the main thing...HDCP. I would imagine your DVI connection on your HDTV is HDCP enabled, so you shouldn't have a problem.

I would confirm if that in fact is the case.

Default I am in the same boat

cpapas,

I am in the same boat. My Toshiba had a DVI connection that works well with the second (problems with the original) Comcast HD cable box. I also am hoping that my DVI connection will work with the winning format's player.

borromini,

how would we confirm that the DVI connection will work with whatever high def DVD player we chose? My television manual says that:

"The DVI/CDCP input on your TV is designed to accept HDCP program material in digital form from EIA/CEA-861-compliant consumer electronic devices, such as a set-top box or DVD player equipped with a DVI-D digital single-ling output connection."

The wording makes it seems like it would work. Unless I can rent a unit, will I will be forced to "try and return" till I get something that works?

You just had to make me do work. I couldn't just take the easy way out, could I...

As borromini stated, this is something you should confirm. Doing a quick look at CNET.com, you should be fine...

(see the input/output section).

Then you should be ok.

Default Thanks!

I appreciate your help. This forum has taught me a lot, enough to know there is still a lot for me to learn.

I will be picking up my King Kong DVD today (in standard def DVD) and Narnia in April. It would have been wonderful if the industry had gotten it's act together and come out with one format. If they had, I might have (reluctantly) bought a high def DVD player and both of these would have been high def DVD purchases.

It now appears that I will not get involved until;
(A) A reasonably priced universal player hits the market,
(B) One format gets enough of a lead that there is no question as who the winner will be.

Thanks again for your help.
