By what year will all TV stations be broadcasting only HD content? I read on how stuff works, that the FCC has mandated that all stations be capable of broadcasting HDTV by 2006. Well there’s a difference between capable of broadcasting HDTV and broadcasting only HDTV.

Actually they don't even have to be capable of HDTV, just DTV. There are two local stations here in Houston that do not have HDTV just DTV. One has four subchannels all SD.

Nah, that seems about right. The transition doesn’t seem to be going as smooth as everyone had hoped, so I’m thinking 2012 is a more realistic date.

yeah... 10% seems about right.
I work at circuit city and you'd be surprised at the number of people that come in there, say they pretty much watch TV all the time but don't want HDTV even though they have the means. People can be stupid. |

The original question in this thread asked about "all HD" but I think the real question is "all digital". The government wants the analog broadcast spectrum for Homeland Security, etc. Joecordeiro says he heard the date may be slipping from 2006 to 2009. Here is a link to a recent Washington Post article that gives some insight. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...-2004Sep9.html |

Analog shut-off, capable of broadcasting HDTV, digital, they all mean the same thing; DTV.
Getting the broadcasters/providers to move from multi-cast DTV to full HDTV may never happen IMO. |

I agree. It could be another 10-15 years before HDTV is mainstream enough to be dominant.
