Default HDTV picture is pixelated/not solid, need help

i had to replace my old analog tv with a new hdtv but the picture not quite solid. it's pixelated, resulting in objects, images and text being jaggy and somewhat blurry. i haven't had any problems with my cable signal until i bought a new hdtv set. my other analog tv is clear and solid, but my hdtv set is not. i called my cable provider about my hd subscription, signal strength, and stb settings. all were good. my only other guess would be old cables in my apartment wall. would a bidirectional signal booster solve my problem?

Did your provider give you an HD cable box?

What are you deeding the Tv with? I mean what cable are you using?
HDMI
Component
s-video
composite?
or just cable?
Often enough a poor signal will do this also.

hdmi cable, with new rg6 outlet cables.

the problem, i'm guessing, is the old rg59 cables in the wall. they are more than 15 years old. i wonder would a bi-directional signal booster would solve this problem. i have no idea. it's just my guess reading multiple topics and posts.

Are other nearby apartments having the same problem? They should if the building wiring is the problem. If so, I'd talk to the owner about upgrading the wiring.

Please identify your panel make & model so people can search possible causes or corrective measures.

If your neighbors with HD sets are not having similar problems, it's unlikely the building wiring is to blame. Older analog sets will not pixilate, which only happens with digital. And they are not nearly as sensitive to signal problems.

Try bypassing your cable box and hook directly to your TV. You should get a couple of channels in HD. If still pixelated it's the old cable - if not pixelated - me guess is it's 1) cable box 2)bad connection to the box. Another test would be to hook your tv up to an antenna and see what HD reception you get. If it's pixelated, me guess would be the Vizio has a weak tuner.

If you are getting pixelation via OTA then it has to be your TV. Or your settings on the TV. With over the air (OTA), either you get a digital signal or you don't.

OTA? u mean using an antenna connection? i haven't tried that, just tried a direct connection bypassing my stb.

btw, is there an indoor antenna connection one can try?

None of which have any favorable reviews, lots of MIRACLE indoor digital antennas that don't appears to work except in a perfect receptive area.
