BTW the HDMI cables, speaker wire and connectors mounts and necessary hardware supplier used by most forum members is WWW.Monoprice.com Excellent products and great service. Don't suckered in for those Hi-$$$ cables pushed by most A/V stores, these work exactly the same. OK - I am going to try the "newbie" way since that's exactly what I am!!
Here's the question: How do I connect DirecTV HD DVR receiver to Panasonic Viera HDTV (TC-L37U22) to Panasonic sound bar HC-HTB10 using HDMI? Also have a Samsung DVD player (fairly old and not HD). Where does that fit in the picture? Having trouble understanding setup. Presently, DirecTV HD DVR receiver connected to TV's HDMI ARC port. TV has two HDMI ports - one ARC and one regular. Am not at all techy-oriented. Please help! Thank you! Last edited by MaryG; 04-08-2011 at 04:40 PM. Reason: add information |

I would hook up like this from your Direct TV Box run the HDMI to your soundbar( HDMI in ) then go from the( HDMI out ) on the soundbar up to the tv and plug that into your main HDMI port, now on your soundbar you should still have an (optical audio in ) take an optical audio out from samsung dvd player to this optical input on soundbar that will give you the sound, now you will take whatever the video output is on the dvd player to the corresponding input on the TV, I don't know what you have on the DVD for video out, could be one yellow rca, s-video and so on. I would suggest an upgrade on the DVD to a unit with HDMI so you could utilize that 2nd HDMI on the TV.

I've tried 568p, 720p, 1080i and 1080p. No change in the picture. Tried it with and without HDCP as well as scanning for channels with encryption on and off. I've tried looking in menu to see if i can do a 'scan' or'search' but no such options, however it does show the resolution of which the channel is being delivered to my TV at 1080p 50Hz PS3: Tried both Amazon cables along with my monitor cable and the screen remains black but flickers liught black to dark black when turning on and off, the TV's menu shows the PS3 running at 1080p 60Hz I've tried researching HD boards but Google is less then helpful. Also this is 2nd hand and about 2 years old |

Since I get no reply to my thread I will post here.
I am wondering why my Harmon/kardon AVR 130 is not sending signal to the surround left or surround right speakers when being used with a PS3. They are connected by an optical cable and I get sound throught the front, center, and subwoofer speakers. Sonyfag reporting in. |
