Upscaling question

Can satellite STB upscale sd programming (480 i/p) to 1080i over component or can that only be done on HDMI like with blu-ray. If I were to set up a sat box to a fixed output of 1080i and use only component cables what resolution does the tv receive?

I know you can set Directv receivers to output everything at 1080i via component and HDMI. I have no experience with Dish Network receivers, so can't answer for those.

Thanks Deadhead - direct is what I have & I didn't know if the limitation on upscaling only on HDMI that blu-ray + HD-dvd have applied to ota as well.

Also if you read back again I saw Dark Star Orchestra at their annual Festival here in OH for four straight nights - man what a treat, Their new "Jerry" is an amazing guitarist - Really ripped it up during a giant Shakedown Street among many others
