Hello,

I am looking to finally get a nice HDTV to go with my Playstation 3. I'm not sure whether to get a Plasma or LCD HDTV.

Walmart has a few nice TV's on sale on their website.

Below are 3 different TV's I was looking at. I'd like to hear peoples opinions and recommendations.

Thanks!

All I can say is..... If you can in any way get the Panasonic TC-P46U1 for $788 I would be ALL F%ck*ng Over It. That is a unreal deal. But that puppy will be sold out in no time like the other TV's mentioned.

The Sharp Aquos 46'' is another incredible deal. If you can be lucky enough to get either 1 you will be shitting in tall cotton for sure. The Panny 1st if at all possible though. Good luck, you are gonna need it. That and a kevlar vest too if those are in store only specials.

I think there was a 52'' Sharp as well for around $888... wicked..

Thumbs up Hdtv

No brainer. Go with the Panny plasma. You'll not have the motion blurring common with LCD TVs, and you'll have deeper blacks and better viewing angles. You'll not be disappointed.

Sharp LCD's are really nice but you need to be careful. I got a 46' Sharp Aquos LC-46D64U 2 years ago and my LCD died. If you can... go with plasma.

Honestly I wouldn't buy any hdtv from walmart, from what I hear they are dumb downed versions of the "real" hdtvs... they might appear to be the same but I don't believe they are.

I also heard they manufacture them with inferior components inside the tv, and also may have less features such as only 1HDMI and such.

I'm not certain, but it's worth looking into before making a decision.

Yes, many manufacturers do provide "less expensive" versions of their HDTVs to mass marketers such as Walmart, Sam's Club, Costco, etc. But, these TVs have DIFFERENT model numbers. Some have fewer features than their counterparts, but it's easy to tell the difference by checking the model numbers. For example, if you were to go into Walmart and see a Panasonic TC-50S123, you would know that it is not necessarily the same as the TC-50S1. As for using inferior parts, I seriously doubt that. Panasonic ( as well as most major manufacturers )still has a reputation to uphold, whether their HDTVs are purchased from Walmart or your local AV store. Just be sure to check the display set or the info on the box to make sure that the TV has all of the features you desire.

Yeah I'm not positive but an acqaintence on another forum I frequent had this to say about wlamart HDTV's...

"I would not buy any TV from wal-mart and I will tell you why. When I worked for HP doing tech support they had models that were wal-mart models. The cheapest pieces of crap out there. They put the crappiest components in them and I would say 30-40% of the calls I took were from people with wal-mart models and they were always having some hardware issue. I would not doubt if TV makers do the exact same thing. Sure it says sony or sharp on the front but when you contract hardware manufactures to make the cheapest components possible just for wal-mart......well you get what you pay for. "

30-40% from Wal-Mart. So 60-70% not coming from Wal-Mart. Hmmm……
