With that budget for a 120/240Hz LCD you will likely end up with too small a screen so I have to also ask why not consider a plasma?

Maybe you should look at my sticky in the flat panel section for the info we need to fully help you as viewing distance, lighting conditions, types of source material etc all plays a big part in what is best for you.

Evidently your "friends" have been grossly misinformed. And I'm sure that none of them are HDTV experts, such as you will find here. You can find excellent deals right now on Panasonic plasmas online ( try Amazon.com first ) as well as at various retailers such as Best Buy. Sears has announced their Black Friday sales already, and there will be several good deals on Panasonic plasmas for under $1000. If you plan on doing any gaming, or watching sports, plasma is the only way to go. You do not have the motion blur associated with LCDs. You also get deeper blacks with plasma.

I recommend staying away from LG TV's as their repair and failure rates are the highest in the industry...

Thumbs up Plasma

Those three HDTVs are some of the best on the market today. You will be totally bowled over with the picture on either one of them. Panasonic is known for great TVs and great customer service. The G10/G15 has more features, but you will be happy with the S1, too. Go for it !
