Default New to DirectvHD, hooking up surround sound

Hi all! New poster, long time lurker.
We are making the jump to Directv HD, new receiver coming on Friday. My question is how do I connect to the TV and surround sound system to get the best picture and sound??? We want to be able to hear the TV through the surround system as well as DVD's.
We have:
Toshiba 46H84 tv (has one HDMI input)
Panasonic PT670 home theater in a box (has HDMI out and optical in)
Getting:
Directv HD receiver
I will be purchasing HDMI and optical cables but I want to make sure I get exactly what I need and how many of each.
How do I hook this up?
Thank you!!!!

Directv receiver to TV---->Component
Directv receiver to Home Theater----->optical
Home Theater to TV----->HDMI

Thanks DeadHead68!

So we shouldn't hook the DTV HD receiver to the tv with HDMI only the home theater to the tv with HDMI?

Newbie here, if you couldn't tell...

deadhead told you correct. this will pass the video & audio via HDMI to your TV from the Dtv box. It will also give you the option to turn off the tv audio and listen directly from your Htheatre for surround. When you hook up your dvd or bd player, you will want to run component from the player directly to your tv, and optical to your Htheatre.
