Problem with Samsung AV-R720

Wasn't really sure where to post this considering I'm having trouble with my Samsung a650 TV, my Samsung AV-R750 5.1 and PS3.

anyway thought this might be an alright place to post.

I will never get picture unless I power on the reciever after the PS3. Otherwise it always says "Mode Not Supported" on the TV. I use HDMI and the PS3 is of course on "HDMI" under the settings. Even sometimes when I'm at the PS3 XMB home screen, I'll boot my game or Blu-Ray movie and my screen will go black, again, saying "Mode Not Supported" and I won't get picture until I power off and on my reciever (sometimes also works to switch inputs on the reciever but this hassle gets quite annoying). Sometimes my sound also pops and crackles very quickly when I start a game or movie...

I think I may know what is causing your issues. First I must ask, have you tried to update the firmware? This unit was the first model in Samsungs venture into 7.1 full system HDMI receiver package. Since it was a first for them, there were some issues. HDMI handshake issues are what appears to be happening.

To help you deal with it if the firmware upgrade is not available here are a couple ideas;

To use audio through HDMI, switch the inputs after the unit is playing what you wanted it to, because the PS3 actually removes video out during its format switching (which is what is causing the black screen.) I read where you do this sometimes. I know it is a pain. You can also try to refresh the input through your tv's source menu, sometimes this works.

The best solution (IMO) is to remove the HDMI from the PS3 to the receiver and connect straight to your display and use an optical cable for audio to the receiver. In this manner, I do not think you can get 7.1 channels, or even HD audio, but I could be wrong. You can definitely get Dolby or DTS 5.1 this way. That way the receiver is only handling the audio portion of the settings, and let your display handle the format switching.

If you call Samsung and report your issue they may help. If it is still under warranty (doubt it, they haven't produced them in over a year, IIRC) you can see if they will update it to the AV730ST, which is the current model. It is only 5.1 when you do not purchase the optional 2 speakers. Also, it doesn't decode HD formats anyway.

What if I'm just using analog anthena instead of digital anthena, can i still view the same resolution?
