Default Cleaning Grills

We had a good discussion here about maybe 6 months to a year ago regarding how to cook good steaks and grill temp and stuff like that so thats why im doing this thread here instead of the "off topic" forum. My Question is ok i have had a cheap grill for a few years and you know how the rack actually starts to get rust on it though you clean it with a wire brush and it still looks rusted in color some. Is there anyway to prevent that from builing up over time if the grill is new im talking about when i buy a new one , I know i wont be able to entirely get the rust off this one? Im thinking even just using like 409 with the wire brush to clean the rack it still might develop some rust right? I mean I think most everyone would prefer to just put the meat right on the bare rack vs. using aluminum foil but thats defeated when you have a rusty looking rack even though you clean it before every use right lol?

I always buy grills with cast iron cooking grates and keep them seasoned. A good grill cover goes along way toward keeping moisture out so rust doesn't start.

Whether it is cast iron grate or stainless, if rust builds up, scrape it and then oil it just before adding heat. Also, clean it after your done and oil it again. Maybe a grill cover? AND IN THE NAME OF SWEET BABY JESUS' PRECIOUS PICKLED FEET, DO NOT USE ANY CLEANING AGENTS ON YOUR GRILL. Even those that are marketed as grill cleaning products. They taste like shit and are like agent orange on your baby makers. Keep the grill alive Brotha.

Use Pam on the grill before each use and always burn off the "stuff" stuck to it before turning off the grill.

yup. me grill has three different grates that me stacks over the "hot" cooking area when the coals are getting good and toasty, too hot to cook over but hot enough to burn any nastys. Me does use a brass brush to give the grates a rough scrub when they be hot. for cooking, me moves the grates back to whence they come and plop the cuts. never had complaints,,,just the opposite.

baby rays is good,,,,but Rendezvous dry rub is succulent. toasted up a huge pork loin last week smothered in baby rays ( about 5 hours ),,and have 3 racks ready to go on the grill in about 1/2 hour. gonna give them a vinegar and water douche,,,cook about 4 hours,,,,and smother in some tasty rendezvous dry rub,,,,,,,
