I recently obtained a file of the most recent series episode of my new favorite show 'Dark Blue' (Wednesday 10 PM,TNT). It is supposedly in 720p and from what it's title says,it's an .MKV file . My question is can i burn this on a regular DVD and play it on my Blu Ray player(Panasonic BD35) and watch true HD on my HDTV? The question may sound redundant ,but I was made to understand that if the right files are on a standard DVD playing in a Blu Ray player, high defintion can be obtained. Yes? No? Please advise. Thanks to all who reply.

You can burn HD on a standard DVD the time is greatly reduced. I think something like 30-45 minutes per 4.7 GB DVD.

You are right ,having tried it while waiting on the answer to my question
using DVD Flick. The PQ was really nice, although like you said,it took up the majority of the disc,it was around 42 minutes, and there was little free space left. Thanks for the reply

If you use a DL (double layer) DVD you can get about twice the recording time. (90 minutes)

Thanks,L2W,it was one of my thoughts, that would be a great idea since it's a crime to compress those episodes....
