Default Help with Canon VIXIA HF S100

I was wondering if anyone else has this make and model (Canon VIXIA HF S100). I am trying to figure out how to save the movies as mpeg files. When I transfer the scenes onto my computer using the software that came with the camera (ImageMixer 3) it stores the files as MTS files. I have tried to see if I could change the saving prefrences in the software as well as in the camera, but not haveing any luck. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

I have an HF S100, and I also had a HF100. This is normal. The MTS files are a highly compressed video format. This is the native AVCHD format of the camera.

If you want to convert to an MPEG file you will need to use a program that can read your MTS files and convert them to MPEG. Nero has a program that does this, and Pinnacle Studio will also do this. There is a chance of losing quality when you decode from one format and recode to another format. The amount of loss depends on how well the utility/program works and what setting you use to recode the video into MPEG.

I hope that this answers your question.

I have the same camera, I wondered the same thing, so I ended up getting Sony Vegas, I use it, it's pretty easy to use, I haven't had any problems, and I save the movies as .wmv's, and they look good.
Of course, it's all in what you plan on doing with the movies, but it's really good looking movies that I have done, which aren't many, I've really just played around with it.
Mostly though, to be honest, I usually just hook the camera up to my hi-def T.V. and watch it there, it's usually wildlife snippets.

Sony Vegas has a LOT of programs to choose from, I have the "Platinum"series, which works fine for me, but mine's just for pure fun, no work, but it'd still do you fine, I'm sure however you end up going.

Good luck, and I hope that you get your answer and enjoy your camera.

I agree with Randy, and I am wondering why I didn't mention it. But Sony Vegas Studio is also a great program to use to make almost any kind of video. You can edit, convert, burn to DVD or Blu-Ray DVD with Sony Vegas Studio Platinum.
