Default Trouble uploading HD (.mts) files to YouTube

I dropped my old camcorder last month and Halifax insurance generously provided me with a super duper Canon HF200 HD camcorder and whilst at the 'ring last weekend I used it - lots

I wanted to share some of those videos on my website through the YouTube channel however I can't get the buggers to upload!

Well, actually I've managed to upload a small 1 minute clip but that's all. I've tried on 3 attempts to upload a full video, the video is 8m50s long or so and the file is 437mb. It uploads to YouTube but then it says "failed to convert video file"

The raw files are .mts files and can be played in all my media players on my PC, I've even tried renaming to mp4 before I upload but to no avail.

Any bright ideas?

Youtube won't take raw .mts files. You have to convert them to WMV's for Youtube.

Hope this helps.

But how do you keep the file in a HD format?

When you render it, make sure you click the option for HD, and YT will have a option for this also.

Go to YT, and read what it says, it will help you.

I've looked on the various help and community pages on YT and I still don't have an answer

I have already uploaded a .MTS file to YT look for "nurburgring devils diner" and it is the first vid you will find. See? Full HD quality and that was the raw .MTS file not a rendered version.

I'd like to know why this small file worked and the larger files I spend 3 hours at a time uploading don't work (and no they are not larger than 1GB!!)

Wow, 3 hrs. If you have a proxy server it won't upload, you have to turn it off. Other than that, I have no idea, sorry. My flicks only take 5 mins to upload.

I can upload all sorts of videos to YT no problem - it's just the larger .MTS HD ones that don't work. It's really frustrating!!

The file actually uploads successfully, it's when YT "processes" the video that it fails - very annoying!

When my process failed it told me YT won't take a raw .mov file, so I converted it to WMV, and it took it. Do you have Win MM?

I have Win MM yes but it doesn't work very well at the best of times and I'm pretty sure it doesn't handle HD files.

The point is I don't want to convert the files - I shouldn't have to!

All my YT files are in HD from Win MM. If you want to upload to YT, you have to do it their way!

Have a nice day

I'm a girl

BTW, when you save in Win MM, make sure you use the "save as" instead of publish movie ok?If you use publish, it will make your clip longer, and more bloated.

Convert your video to h.264 - 1280x720p 25fps (PAL) (or 30fps) either MP4 or WMV will work.
