Default HDX900ex

I am planning a shoot on HDX900EX camcorder & will use 66minutes medium DVCPRO tape. But cox of shooting in HD format the tape shall run for 15minutes. Someone told me that the HDX900ex has a mode to shoot at slower speed to give me 30minutes of shooting time on medium tape. Can any one knowing more on this subject help me here. How to activate the EX mode on HDX900 also does it drops quality in the process of doubling the shoot time on tape.

i need to have max possible shooting time on 66minutes (or is there any larger tape for camcorder shooting) without compromising at all on QUALITY as its a very important broadcast event involving shoulder camera work so no way to use a VTR with HD-SDI link to shoot longer ... also i will edit on FCP 6 ... can i use HDX900 to dump footage of DVCproHD thru Firewire port & also use external HDD on Firewire 400 port. ANy issue with such a setup

Otherwise pls help me the place where i can look for solution.
