Default Time to replace Sony HDR-HC1?

I love my HDR-HC1 but im tired of the tapes and would like a smaller high def camcorder. Is the new 24 Mbps AVC video as good as 25 Mbps on tape?

Im also after 1920x1080 video my HC1 only does 1440x1080. I only shoot family stuff and put the date and time on the videos i can do this with the HC1 someone made a special plugin to get the time and date stamp on the video automaically by getting the info from the video file.

Can you put the time and date on AVC video automaically? or do you have to go in and "guess" when the video was shoot and do it manually?

Apparently no one knows the answer. I will say this, I have a Sony HDR-SR11 and use the Picture Motion Browser software that came with it to import my video files to my hard drive. When it does that, it renames each video by the date and time that it was taken. So for instance, when I look up a video file on my computer it will be named something like this:

20090325133415.m2ts

(m2ts is the filename for the AVCHD files that the camera stores.)

So according to that file name, that video would have been taken on 03-25-2009 at 13:34:15 (or 1:34:15 pm). I don't know if there is a way to time stamp the video after you have shot it. But there is a way to include the time stamp while you are recording it. It shows up in the bottom corner of the video.

Does that help?

Default AVCHD better than tape

Feel free to go ahead and buy a AVCHD hd camcorder. They can do everything you requested and have great colour.
