I have been reading up on which editors to use (currently like the functionality of Vegas) but what I am looking for is a quick browser of sorts.
I have a Sony HCR-7 and I am using Motion Picture Browser. It serves the purpose well but simple things like renaming files is clunky. Does any have any suggestions for a decent browser versus using Motion Picture Browser? Thanks! Benjamin. |

It's actually called Picture Motion Browser, and you're right, it's not very good.
You don't need any software to rename a file, which you just do in Windows. There are a variety of free players available for windows, like VLC or Media Player Classic, as well as the included Windows Media Player. For basic editing you could check out Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 9 or Adobe Premiere Elements. Both are good consumer packages and both are under $100.

Picture Motion Browser - yeah, I always get it confused. Picture Motion just sounds...well, non-English.
Yes, I know I can rename simply through explorer. The problem that I have is that I have 1000 video clips so to open a player, say like VLC, Picture Motion Browser, Sony Vegas etc just to find out what the actual clip is, then back to explorer to rename is time consuming. I am looking for something that will do them both. For example, ACSee for images. You can manipulate all file information along the while while also viewing the image in the software display window. There is no need to flip back and forth. It wouldn't be so cumbersome if the file names weren't: 20070219234585.m2t 20070218113214.m2t 20070103091654.m2t It's a pain to find the file in explorer once I know what the video actually contains by viewing it in the player. Perhaps - Vegas is the way to go. Thanks for the help! Benjamin |
