Default MXP/FXP movies. Will I be able to preserve quality on my DVD disk?

I just bought Canon Vixia HD20.
I shot a few short movies and now trying to
find out how I can play this on my new Pioneer DVD Player.

So using ImageMixer3 software that comes with camcorder
I selected write to DVD option and it takes too long....
more that an hour now for 590 MB of data.

I just wanted to have a general understanding.
If I shoot in MXP/FXP mode will I be able to preserve this quality
on my DVD disk? If yes then how?

Are you sure you don't mean HV20? The only references to HD20 I can find are typos where they really mean HV...

In any event, this is all detailed in your manual... The simple answer in no, if you use the HV20 to record in HDV, you can only downconvert to SD for regular DVD, so you will lose the HD quality. However, this is simple to do with or without a PC and should not take as long as you say it was taking...

some blu-ray dvd players can play back mxp/fxp video that has been burned to a standard definition dvd in the high definition format, but the disc won't play back in a standard definition dvd player.

if you are talking about creating a standard definition dvd that works in standard definition dvd players, it won't be high-def, but the picture quality should be very good.

Sorry, my model is Vixia HG20.

"...f you are talking about creating a standard definition dvd that works in standard definition dvd players, it won't be high-def, but the picture quality should be very good..."

That's what I expected.
But my FXP picture is not very good.
It's strange. If to play back HD quality on DVD players is so hard what's the use of recording in HD? I don't get it.
I paid more to show my kids better picture.
If I'm not able to store it on DVD then what's the use of it?

No regular DVD player can play back HiDef because they weren't designed to do so, and no one said they could.

You can store HD files on a regular DVD as an HD data file and play back in HD on a PS3 and some other Blu-Ray players.

But complaining that you need appropriate equipment is like complaining that you bought a movie on DVD and can't play it in your VHS machine. The point of HD video is to shoot in HD and play back on HD compatible equipment, including HDTVs and some form of HD player, including BD players or directly from the cam to an HDTV.
