What is HD?

I have an HP laptop with an HD TV/DVR tuner that only has 2 inputs, S-Video and a RF Coaxial Cable Jack. I can connect my HD Camcorder to the Tuner using the S-Video, but only to get SD.
Does anyone know of a way to connect the Camcorder to the RF Coaxial Cable Jack to achieve HD on the PCs TV Tuner. The intended purpose of the RF input is to get HD using an OTA Antenna. (I am using the Pause/Rewind Feature of the Tuner with the camera while recording real time and it works quite well using the S-Video in, but I want HD) |

HD camcorders don't have RF out. Depending on the cam you usually need to use Firewire or Component.
Which camcorder do you have? It'll say in the manual the only ways you can get HD out into a TV or PC.

Thanks, I know....The problem is that my tuner does not have Firewire or Component inputs and it doesn't recognize the laptops Firewire input.
I need to find a HD Tuner Card that accepts Firewire or Component. |

Why do you need/want to use the tuner? It wasn't designed for this purpose. It's meant to pull in OTA/Cable signals, which are not the same as Camcorder video streams or data files... It's a little like saying you want to run your car on Apple Juice.
Again, what cam do you have? There may be a better way. Edit: NewEgg shows 8 different Tuner cards for laptops, but none have anything other than the ports you have on yours. There may be people who do this successfully, but I've never heard of it. But I learn something new every day...

I have a Sony Handycam HDR-SR11. We use the tuner as a "TIVO" playback system for recording springboard diving practices. We put it on a 30 second delay to evaluate dives. I suppose it could also be used for other sports such as golf. It allows us to go back frame by frame while the camera is still recording action.
Anyway it works great with the S-Video in. I just thought that since the camera had the ability to record in HD and the tuner can record in HD that we could get an even better picture. |

Got it. Very clever. Unfortunately I think the only way to get HD into your PC from the cam is via USB as a file transfer, or get a component capture card (which will likely cost more than the cam and is probably only for a desktop).
