Default Sony FX1 question...>

I am thinking of buying a HDR-FX1, and though I have read lots on the camera, it seems a lot of the reviews are fairly unspecific.

Does anyone know what the performance of the FX1 is like in SD mode? I will need to use it in this mode sometimes, and would like to know if it will perform as well as my VX2100. Also, is it better to shoot in HD mode then do the downconversion on the PC, or shoot in SD mode on the camera, or downconvert when copying off the camera to the pc?

It would be great if I can shoot and archive my stuff in HD format, for re-use when HD-DVD becomes readily available. At the same time, I also want to get better quality SD if I can...

Regards, Rob

Smile sony fx1

hi, as far as i know, the fx1 in SD mode easily captures the same amount of detail as the vx2100, but with a slightly softer picture but beautifull all the same, as for downsizing HD material, i have read complaints about some artifacts appearing in some frames, during HD downsizing in camera seen when you use fire-wire transfer to a computer, but not with all fx1`s.

Default Thanks Allan...>

...for your reply. I guess it sounds a little dissapointing in a way - the implication is that the horizontal res is not quite as good as the vx2100. I wonder if converting to SD from HD on the PC would give better pics than from the camera's own converter. I notice also that the FX1 does not have a 4:3 safe area display on its viewfinders, whereas the Pro version does. Seems like such a necessary feature, shame it is left off.

Smile Hi Bob

I Read Another Article Recectly Saying The Hd Sony Matches The Vx2001 In Detail In Sd Mode But A Slightly Softer Picture, However The Tester Turned Up The Hdr Fx1`s Sharpening Circuit A Turn Or Two, And It Completely Matched The Vx2001 As For The Artefacting Bob, I Am Awaiting Delivery Of The Pal Version Hdr Fx1 And Will Try It Out On My Pc And Let You Know How It Goes. ...I can't wait to hear what you think, not only on the SD issue, but the camera in general.
