One of our fellow members private messaged me asking the following. I urged him to ask his question to the forum to gain a better insight.

Here are a few locations to check out.
This link was working a while ago, it is for Thales codec free download. http://www.thales-bm.com/html_gb/fra...ducts_mpg.html This is my baby right now with 9+ systems going online soon http://www.avid.com/products/ds/dshd/index.asp Then there's Final Cut Pro for home use http://www.apple.com/finalcutpro/ Or Adobe Premiere Pro http://www.adobe.com/products/premie...s/hdprimer.pdf I am getting spoiled with the Nitris DS systems to play with at work. I guess my next project is to build a system pc for HD editing at home. GT de wb9yrr |

Hi,
I'm new to this site and trying desperately to find out a few basic things about editing in HD on Final Cut Pro. We shot on the Sony F900, and I have Final Cut HD. My question is can I input my footage directly from the original tapes straight from the camera into my FCP system in a 24-frame environment? Will I be able to output 30 frame temp edits to show my producers? I know these are first-level questions but I could use all the help I can get. (davak@mail.com) Thanks in advance... Dave |

Currently FCP 4.5 HD doesn't support HDV codec, but there is a really easy 3rd party solution to this problem.
I would recommend the Lumiere HD http://www.lumierehd.com/lumiere_hd.php I don't really know if Apple will support HDV in further FCP versions as they have gone with Panasonic on the compressed HD route. Good luck! |

Very helpfull links George, Thanks.
I work at a startup and we are looking into the lowest cost way of editing in HD yet still using a professional program. Head to head, Avid|DS HD vs. Final Cut Pro HD, can anyone list off some pros and cons? |
