Default what video camera to buy to record sports?

I have been shopping a vidcam for too long and cant find a straight shooter salesperson. I need to record my kids playing lacrosse and hockey. also need to edit into highlight videos on dvd's to send off to coaches . have been told to buy everything from minidv which i can only assume are are outdated? to $2000 hd cams. would also like to take decent stills. i have no experience. would spend more $ if it makes video and editing easier to do.can anyone help me pull the trigger on a camera. been looking at cannon s20 and 21 for the viewfinder, and the panasonic 700... any help out there????

Go with the Canon, either the Vixia 20 or 21 would be me choice. The only thing the panny can do over the canons is shoot at 1080p,,,,but requires tremendous computer horsepower to render videos. Personally, me would shoot at 720, and render at such. Coaches aren't looking for the best video - they be looking for the best players.

Which Sony? Which Thread? Don't make people look up all your other posts to try to figure out what you mean.

Hi this is what I do for my high school teams and the better the video the easier it makes it for the college coaches to view and make a decision.

Cannon has some HD 1080i modles that do a great job. One that comes to mind is the M300 holds two cards (which is the way I would recomend) and good zoom. I have been using a cannon XHA1 that does cost but does a reall great job, in fact it does way more than I can use. Along with that camera I use a Sony HC3, both are MiniDV because that was the best at the time.

The Sony you linked to, will do a very good job and at a ok price.

Hoped this helped.
