Default Burn HD files onto DVD and play on blu-ray player?

Hi,
I plan to buy an HD camcorder Canon HF 200. I don't need to edit anything. I just want to write it to a blank DVD and play on Blu-ray player. Is it possible?

For example , i will record movie to 16GB SD card at highest resolution and write it to several blank DVD.

thanks.

Hi, You can burn hi definition to regular dvd with a regular burner as avchd, and even in mpeg2.
You can fit up to 40 minutes of hi def mpeg2 on a double layer dvd, (or up to 60 minutes of avchd)

Programs that will do this are Ulead, Pinnacle Studio, Sony Vegas... and a few others.

Hope this helps

Thanks for great info. That's all i need.
I don't do much of editing and just want to transfer movies to regular DVD and retain highest resolution so that family can enjoy. Do you think 16GB SD card can fit in a single layer DVD? And with those software you recommend, do i need to convert it to readable format?

Currently, i have ImgTOO and HD Converter ( i think)

thanks.

Hi Andyus
Standard Single-Sided Single-Layered DVD Disc is (4.7GB)so you would need at least 2 double layered for a 16 gig card.

I have the Sony Vegas Platinum, I convert my Mov files to WMM files so I can upload to Youtube. I'm not sure what file extension Canon has, I have an Aiptek. If you read the AVCHD thread at the top of the page, it has alot of good info.

Glad I could help

Thank you all for your input. i ordered HF 200 and it'll be here tomorrow. I will shoot 8GB for testing. My friend has Adobe Primer pro (not sure it's correct name but something like that). All i need is to import files from camcorder to computer, cut what i don't want( may add some music) and burn into blank DVD ( serveral DVD is not a problem). I just want to retain highest HD quality so that my family can enjoy with plasma tv.

thanks.

ok..now i shoot a bunch of video in HD mode MXP (highest). When i look into the folder (i backup all files to external hard drive by the way) like this:
SD0015 (this one is just folder sequence from SD card)
PRIVATE
AVCHD
BDMV
BACKUP
CLIPINF (there are *.CPI files)
PLAYLIST (00000.MPL file)
STREAM (in this directory, there are .MTS files)
MY_MUSIC

I copy *.MTS files into DVD and it can't play in my blu-ray player. I probably didn't do it right. Can you please walk me through the process to just get the files on DVD disk (no editing)? I have Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 , but it's complicated to use.

thanks.

Not all Blu-ray players play AVCHD. What player do you use? I can write AVCHD to DVD-R that has been recorded by my Sony HDR-UX10 and play the file on my PS3 and Sony BDP-S1. I am just using the software that comes with the camcorder. I would assume your Canon came with simple software to allow easy direct copying of files to DVD-R.

I have the same player BDP-S1. However i didn't use the software comes with Canon HF200. Do you have to actually write to DVD-R from camcoder or does not matter from hard drive or camcoder?

thanks.

You need to put the .mts files in a carrier that the bd player recognizes. multiAVCHD or software like Sony Vegas plat pro, Pinnacle 12/14 to name a couple would work for you. Keep in mind that the proprietary software and the ones mentioned (other than multiAVCHD) will burn to 720 x 480 on a standard dvd. Unless you are burning to BD, only then will you get the "complete" hd picture. multiAVCHD coupled with imgburn will give you the best picture your cam is capable of when burning to standard dvd. For anyone shooting HD video and wanting to put it on standard dvd, me highly recommends multiAVCHD, a free download, with a bit of a learning curve, but well worth it.

I have done both, directly from the camcorder and written files to DVD-R using my laptop. Either way, the discs play fine. Sony knew to make Blu-ray players that played AVCHD because of compatibility with their camcorders.

I scratch my head know no way to go.
I use software comes with HF200 to write AVCHD format into DVD-R. The disc created ok, but can't play on Sony BDB-S1. The only message i see on Sony panel is "Can't Play".

thanks.

Finally , got it to work.
I have DVD-R disc (Sony and Ritatek brand). The DVD writer does not recognize Sony disc (funny) but Ritatek. However it does not play on my BDP-S1 . Then i bring that disc (Ritatek) to local Bestbuy and try on their Blu-ray player and it works ok. Then, i bought some blank DVD-R (bestbuy brand) and now it can play on my BDP-S1. Will head to store to get some more

HD video looks awesome on my plasma, by the way.

Thanks for helping.

Andyus,I saw this thread, and just wanted you to know what you can do and it's limitations on High Def,and standard DVD:

Knowledge on the BD5/BD9 option

BD9/BD5
BD9 and BD5 are lower capacity variants of the Blu-ray Disc that contain Blu-ray Disc compatible video and audio streams contained on a conventional DVD (650 nm wavelength / red laser) optical disc. Such discs offer the use of the same advanced compression technologies available to Blu-ray Discs (including H.264/MPEG-4 AVC, VC-1 and MPEG-2) while using lower cost legacy media. BD9 uses a standard 8152MB DVD9 dual-layer disc while BD5 uses a standard 4482MB DVD5 single-layer disc.

BD9/BD5 discs can be authored using home computers for private showing using standard DVD±R recorders. AACS digital rights management is optional. The BD9/BD5 format was originally proposed by Warner Home Video, as a cost-effective alternative to regular Blu-ray Discs. It was adopted as part of the BD-ROM basic format, file system, and AV specifications. BD9/BD5 is similar to 3× DVD for HD DVDs.
