If you mean great relative to other cameras in the price range, the Canon camcorders are very good. Camcorders have been out a long time and the move to smaller has resulted in poorer performance in low light conditions. Bigger camcorders almost 20 years ago with three larger CCD's did better than these small CMOS camcorders in low light. If you can afford a large professional camcorder today, the low light performance is of course far better than with small consumer camcorders.

The Vixia HF200 is the way to go as stated. You get really high Definition video an that baby. I would say that you could get the same video as the high priced HD camcorders. It does not have all the bells and whistles as one but the video is awsome. I personaly own one and it is the best camcorder I ever had. Looks great on my HDTV. When i first got it I was like awstruck by the quality campared to other ones with a higher price.

I got the same one two weeks ago. Just came back from the cruise and shot a lot of video at highest quality MXP. Video looks awesome on HD tv.
