Default get rid of the NOISE! (HELP PLEASE!)

just splurged on a Canon Vixia HG20. i've seen from utube what it's capable of. i've just started playing and all i get on the LCD viewfinder and even when i import to imovie it's complete garbage with noise. i know it's gunna suck with low light, but this is just averge indoor lighting and i'm not satisfied with the detail or anything at all.

(PS yes i am running it at the highest recording rate, 30p)

thanks for anyone who helps!

Have you tried it outdoors in full daylight? How does the picture look then?

I'd first make sure that you can get a good picture under good circumstances and then test to see what causes the changes.

I've got the HF10 and have used it in low light and its still been very good.

shot video in extreme low light with me HF20,,balloons at night with sparse overhead lighting with publishable results. You might want to shoot in ap mode,,and adjust the wb up just a tick. And keep the camera as steady as possible. getting to know the camera is just the first step. Can you give us some more info on what mode you were shooting in?

thanks for the responses guys. and yes, it definitely does look a lot better out in the sun, but i can't be expected to shoot everything outside! i have seen on youtube some people have managed to shoot indoors with PRETTY good results. i've managed to make it better i'm just curious as to what type of tricks people are pulling out of their hat to make their footage look so good.

oblioman, i am shooting in 30p 'cine-mode'. i can't simply "tick the WB up a notch" all i can do is fill the screen with something white and hit 'set' and it does the rest. also, i do not have a AP mode. i have TV mode and AV mode. cine mode seems to look the best. it's getting there, i just have a wedding on saturday and i'd like to somewhat know waht i'm doing!

If not mistaken, cinemode is 24p on that camera,,and will be more prone to artifacts,,especially in lower light conditions. me suggestion would be to set it on automatic,,highest quality,,and let the editing add any special effects.
