Default settings for LG Plasma-50PA5500

so i was told that plasmas were the TV to get for sports and movies. Just hooked up this TV and i'm getting a really poor picture for both.

there is a button where you can toggle between game and cinema but neither of them is very good.

i played with the settings myself but still can't find an acceptable picture.

any ideas?

I would recheck settings ( input selections and options) you should be getting a good picture with that set.

Take a look at the cable box itself when you think you should be seeing HD programming.

If it's led readout says that it is outputting 480i, go to the user settings FOR THE direct tv receiver. Change to output 16:9 and 1080i or perhaps even 1080p as with the newer boxes.

If that does not do the trick.... see if the lg has an "info" button that will report to you what the LG is receiving for a signal. Report that data back here if you can.
