For those folks who would like a basic calibration, perhaps some instruction on which controls to touch and which to leave alone,
and lack the time or inclination to purchase a disc and learn how to use it this at least sounds like a "fair" deal.
I agree with that - almost in line with what the geek squad would charge for a basic service but statements about a professional tv studio setting their reference level to 3500k indoors and 5600k outdoors doesn't seem credible.

Guess it could depend on the definition of "reference level".
If studio lighting is "bright white" fluorescent, then it's 3500K;
setting the "reference level" of the camera may simply compensate and yield an output in the 6500K range.
Sort of like using blue flashbulbs in the old days.

Thanks, I have had many customers who have alot of questions about there TV or projector. Plus I give them a Micro Fiber cloth and formula to use for cleaning, if neccesary.

Really sorry dude, but you just raise a few too many red flags for me.

Man, I can foul up English as well as anybody, especially with this dang iPod. But I do know the difference between "there and their". So until I see an effort on your part to pay attention to the basics, I'm hard pressed to send you to anyone's home to "calibrate" their display. At least from this website.

With reservations,

I use the custmers equipment to playback and a Spears & Muncil HD Blu-Ray edition Disc. The measurement 5800K that I talked about before, is not related to your 6500K reading, that's my error. Spears & Muncil is the best HD Blu-ray Disc that I have seen on the market. There is a market for this kind of work, when you have residence and senior homes with 3 or 30 HDTV's to calibrate.

My original piece (this sticky) with the help of RBINCK may not be relevant today.

So if the powers that be would like to have me update this thread to today's products with their inherent strengths and far fewer limitations, I would be happy to capitulate.

I cannot tell you the last time it was that I had to focus guns or clean optics or rebuild geometries.

While the times are changing, a few things are constant.

1: All electronics are subject to the sum of their internal components.
2: All internal components comprising like displays are not equal.
3: Even when the viewing environment is in a completely darkened room, calibration compensations will not be the same for like displays.
4: Accurate calibration will require measurement with accurate probes.

All the best.

I'm heading south once again tomorrow night. I'll pen a draft and sent it to you Rbinck (send me an email so I can send you the draft). You may edit it and perhaps some of the myths and potential possibilities inherent in todays tech will alleviate a few of the misconceptions and such that permeate the hdtv realm as we know it today.

I'm looking forward to working with you again my friend.

All the best.
