Default gamma settings

Is there a way to check the gammasetting of the television without the use of equipment. I know that 2.2 is what you want so how to get it?

Utilization of a test disk with a gamma pattern will get you very close if you follow the instructions. (you'll be required to "squint" while viewing the pattern.) Measured results using proper test equipment will provide better accuracy of course.

Avia and others have the pattern.

Setting the black/white levels to the best of your and the displays ability's is a precursor to accurate gamma.

Some displays actually have "gamma controls". Experiment with the gamma pattern but recheck your results with patterns for Black/white levels upon completion.

IIRc. the dve disk has a stepped ire pattern called a reverse gray ramp with steps. Put it up and make sure that when using the white level control, you just start to lose the delineation between the brightest two steps. Do the same with the black level control and verify that the two darkest blocks are also viewable. (just barely in a dark room)

Frankly, even with "gamma pattern", eyeballing it is problematical at best. Just make sure that when adjusting the w/l & b/l controls that they are not messing with each other, so to speak, with regards to a good final outcome.

Check my site for further data and some tips.

Good viewing,
