Default A Question on HDTV Calibration

I just received the DVE HD Home Basics to calibrate my Vizio VO42E and a SL47M. I have one BD player and a Upscaling DVD Player.

1.) If I calibrate both TVs with the BD Player and DVE, would the TV with the Upscaling DVD player settings hold true or would I need a DVD calibration Disk for SD Player.

2.) Both TVs are using HDMI for BD and SD DVD and TMC HD-DVR. Would the settings on the HDMI be Global or Independent. If global am I better off using component for the HD-DVR?

3.) If I do go component on the HD-DVR, would the setting for the BD Player way different than Cable HD content?

To answer all of your questions, you should calibrate each and every input on your TV as they are all independent. I would use the Blu-ray player for this but that is up to you. Use the same player to calibrate each input.

I just calibrated the VO420E and the Picture looks great! But the down side is that the settings are global. I have the BD Player on HDMI-2 and the HD-DVR on HDMHI-1 and the settings are the same for all inputs, that includes component, composite and RF. I guess you get what you pay for on a budget set, not unless I'm doing something wrong.................

Oh, I am, that's fer sure, Hi Def on cable do look a lot better than before I did the calibration, enough so that I'm not going to mess with the settings. Once I nailed the grey scale, everything fell into place

As for the Beer, I'm about ready to tap into some Dark Munich Lager that I brewed up a couple of Months back and watch something on my Blu-Ray

Welcome to the forum

What meter did you use to calibrate the grayscale?

That doesn't sound right.
Most sets, even the "budget" ones have several preset picture modes - things like "normal", "cinema", "vivid", etc.
These presets are usually not adjustable.

However most all sets also have at least one picture setting called "user" or "custom" . . . this is the one you want to use for calibration, because it is the only one that will hold the settings.
And, this mode should hold separate settings for each input.

Yep, I used the Custom settings. I'll give you an example:

HDMI-2 Settings:Custom
Backlight: 49
Brightness: 44
Contrast:46
Tint:+4
Sharpness:1
Red:128
Blue:128
Green:128
All advance features Off except Movie Mode.

When I checked the other Inputs, HDMI-1 &3, Component 1&2, They all had the same seettings as HDMI-2. If I made a change in contrast in HDMI-2, I would see the change in the other inputs.....Strange, Yes?

Yes . . . strange indeed

"Custom" sure sounds like it would be the one . . . what other choices do you have on that set?

In top Menu "Picture":
Custom
Standard
Movie
Game
Vivid
Football
Golf
Basketball
Baseball

In sub menu Advance Picture> Color Temp:
Custom
Normal
Cool
Computer

I set both to Custom in HDMI-2 and did my adjustments from there..............
