Default AVCHD (.MTS.MT2S) >External HD (USB 2.0) > Xbox 360

Hey all,

I'm going to get the Sony CX-100 when it is released in May and was wondering. Am I able to drag the files from my Mac, to my WD 500GB External HD, hookup up to the Xbox 360, and watch my clips in HD?

I'm aware that you can buy an HD-DVD Player for the 360, but it's too expensive for just a drive. Plus I don't want an external burner/ player for price reasons as well..

Is all of this possible?

If not, what is the cheapest Blu-Ray burner/ player drive on the market?

First off, I'm not sure this is the right place for this, but then who knows.

I don't know if the 360 plays mts files natively, but I know for sure that the PS3 does. I've read some people saying it doesn't work and you have to convert the files to a different format.* If that's the case, your cheapest option may be a conversion program rather than a player itself. There are several programs out there just find one that will convert all your files to something the 360 can read. If you convert them to .wmv HD files, you could probably even stream them to the 360 without having the store them on the external drive.

Even if you pay for it, you will be paying less than a new player. BD burners are still very expensive and the media is not real cheap either. Newegg has an LG for $250. And discs run about $8 for the single layer 25GB blanks. And then you need a player for your TV on top of that.

And even if you got the HD-DVD add-on, you would have to author the mts files in a video editor that can burn an HD-DVD compatible disc.

So basically your options are file conversion, BD burner and SAL player, or PS3.

* I don't own a 360 so this is only from reading info about it and HD camcorders.

The Xbox 360 only supports Microsoft's proprietary .wmv format for video files, most video can be easily converted to be playable on the console if you own a video converter. No need to by other so expensive burner and player, i have an xbox 360 too, i alway do this converting things and feel well. The upstairs recommend moyea video converter, maybe you can have a try, i was ever recommended by a friend, he said it is good.

I tape high def movies with my camcorder (MP.4) and put them into my xbox via a usb/sd card adapter. After a small update when plugging the usb adaapter in I can watch movies right off the card. I am looking into weather my Toshiba HD-DVD players can through the usb ports.
