BB calculated my A2 to be worth 44$! F*&k that!! I paid (gulp) $499 for it a year ago. It isn't like BB is giving cash, just store gredit.

I am sure that we'll hear how 44$ is better than nothing. IMO, this smells of BD "goodwill".

I don't think we will get them. My guess it that this IS a trade-in only program.

If you bought your player from Best Buy, you will get the $50 gift card. If you DID NOT buy from Best Buy and want to get rid of player, you can use there trade in program and basically get nothing back.

The email I got said that since I bougfht my player from BB, I could trade it in. If I get a free 50$, then cool, if not.. no biggie. I would be shocked to get a free 50$ from them.. just seems to good to be true is all I am saying

Believe it or not, I just picked up a telemarketer call (I'm starting to pick up, say hello, and then put the phone down when they start talking just to piss them off like they do me) and it was a canned message from Best Buy informing me of the $50 gift card offer. They had me call 800-best-buy to confirm the address and asked me to verify the date of purchase (have receipt handy). If I understand things properly, Reward Zones members should get them automatically but everyone else needs to call.

The buy-back offer is a joke. I went to the site for fun (have not intention of taking advantage of it). An A3 in "excellent" condition with 20 movies is worth $66.

Edit: full details here: www.bestbuy.com/hddvd

Nope. If you bought a player from BB *before Feb 23, 2008* they're offering a gift card. See www.bestbuy.com/hddvd.

Smile $50 GC offer now Available in Canada

I just checked the Canadian Best Buy website. The $50 gift card offer is available to Canadians.

Now that this offer is available to us Canadians, I'm left with one question. Does this offer also apply to the Microsoft HD DVD add-on?

As far as the microsoft HD-DVD question - yes. I received the 'famous' e-mail from best buy yesterday informing me that my hd-dvd player (xbox add-on) qualifies me for a $50 gift card that I should receive nlt May.

I would urge everyone to call that has not been contacted, I bought 3 players online with my reward zone and I was not on the list.. After calling yesterday I am now on the list and will recieve the gift cards in the coming weeks..

You dont need a receipt so long as you have your debit card or credit card that you purchased it with.. They can look up any and all transactions you made with a card dating 2-3 years back so unless you paid cash a receipt is not necessary..

I got the call the other day. I saw on the caller ID that it was them, but I didn't pick it up, assuming I was late on my payment or something. When I listened to the message, I was pleasantly surprised. They said it would just arrive in the mail at some point.

They didn't say the amount though. I was thinking it would be like $10. Looking here, I discovered it was $50. Can't complain about that. The other day I was in BB, and I saw they had the A-30 for $99. That stings. All the titles were 50% off as well. Heroes season one for $50. I'd get it, but I assume season two will never be released on HDDVD.

I'll save my GC for a combo player when the prices drop enough.

The $50.00 gift card is a good idea and I appreciate it. The trade-in program sucks however. I did not invest heavily in HD Movies so I am okay that way. Unfortunately I will not be receiving my five free rebate DVD's because the GF was to supposed to mail it in and forgot!!!

I did get five free movies at purchase and I later bought the Blade Runner special edition. I do not see myself buying a standalone BD player either. If I do decide to get BLu-Ray it will be a PS3. I am going to get an Apple TV or VUDU or both not sure. But I am leaning more that way now.
