Default Toshiba A2 and Onkyo 605 TrueHD - Help

1.)Ok... I read a previous thread and from what I can tell is that My Toshiba A2 will encode into Dolby TrueHD and my Onkyo will just play it showing MultiChannel PCM. No explain to me why I should own a Onkyo 605. I spent the extra money because I asumed that I needed this receiver as it says Dolby TrueHD. Are youy telling me that any ole Receiver with 5.1 or 6.1 or 7.1 with HDMI 1.3 will play Dolby TrueHD becasue the player will do al the work???? If so why own the Onkyo when it won't do the work??? Is it possible that with later firmware that the HD-A2 will allow HBR? I guess I would just feel all warm and fuzzy if the receiver would says Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD Master Audio.

2.)Currently I have it set on only a 5.1 system (Due to the number of speakers) would I benefit to have 7.1 on Dolby TrueHD or will it sound the same on 5.1, with 6.1 or 7.1 giving out more sound or will there be different channels going to the extra speakers.???

Thanks In Advance,
Jer

Welcome to the forum!

If you plan to ever buy a BD player also, you will likely NEED a receiver like that Onkyo since most BD players DO NOT decode all the HD audio soundtracks.

Your A2 will most likely never output HBR bitstream, but that is the beauty of having the HD audio decoders being mandatory in the HD DVD players.

My A2 does the HD audio even with my HDMI 1.1 Denon receiver as multi-channel with the A2 doing the decoding. Depending on the receiver, you can take the decoded HD 5.1 audio signal and matrix it to the rear surrounds.

Hope this helps!

Ok I have a PS3 80gig for my BlueRay. But I understand it does the same thing. It does not broadcast out HBR as well. You said I could matrix out to other channels. From what I have read the Onkyo will not do this unless I am mistaken. If so Please tell me how to do this.?

Thanks,
Jer

The 605 WILL NOT matrix 5.1 to 7.1. You need the 705 or higher to do that. The 605 will only do 7.1 for movies that are coded for 7.1. I can't really help you with the technical side I have the A2, PS3 and 605 and they all sound great IMO.
