Toshiba HD-XA2 HD DVD Player Wins Sound & Vision Editors' Choice Award

Quote:
WAYNE, N.J., Jan. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Toshiba America Consumer Products,
L.L.C. ("Toshiba") today announced that Sound & Vision magazine, "the
preeminent source for consumers of home theater, audio, video and
multimedia products," has selected the Toshiba HD-XA2 HD DVD player for its
prestigious 2007 Editors' Choice Award.

(Photo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20080116/NEW034A )

"Toshiba has maintained its position as a leader in delivering quality
high definition products to the market," said Mike Mettler, Vice President
and Editor-In-Chief of Sound & Vision. "The Toshiba HD-XA2 is a great
example of a product that combines outstanding engineering and design to
create an excellent value for the consumer."

The HD-XA2 was selected as one of the top products of 2007 from a large
field of consumer electronics devices. The player was chosen because its
"boot-up and disc-load times are vastly reduced, connections are more
robust and its Silicon Optix video processor turns the HD-XA2 into one of
the best upconverting DVD players we've seen," said Mettler.

"Toshiba is thrilled to receive an Editors' Choice Award from such a
highly regarded publication in the industry as Sound & Vision," said Jodi
Sally, Vice President of Marketing, Toshiba America Consumer Products
Digital A/V Group. "Toshiba HD DVD players continue to be recognized as one
of the best home theater products in the high-definition category from both
A/V enthusiasts and everyday movie lovers alike. As Sound & Vision has
noted, the HD-XA2's outstanding picture and audio capabilities and cutting
edge interactive and Web-enabled networking features create the ultimate
entertainment experience."

About Toshiba's HD DVD Players

All of Toshiba's HD DVD player models are backward compatible, allowing
users to enjoy their libraries of current DVD and CD software while
enhancing the look of regular DVDs by upconverting their output to near
high definition picture quality. With the HD DVD format, select HD DVD
players allow consumers to experience true high def 1080p for extraordinary
resolution that matches the latest state of the art 1080p HDTVs. These same
players display images at 24 frames per second, the same frame rate used by
directors when using film to create motion pictures for a smoother, more
film like, viewing experience. Thanks to the Ethernet port and memory built
into every Toshiba HD DVD player, movie lovers also can enjoy the benefits
of web-enabled network connectivity. Consumers can download the latest
movie trailers as they become available, share favorite movie clips with
friends, vote in online polls and enjoy the experience like never before.

Kudos to Toshiba for the HD-XA2!

This is a very good player. I really like the upconverter on this machine. After owning the HD-A20 and now having the HD-XA2, the HD-XA2 is a better built unit, very solid.

Honor is well deserved!

I'm happy to own one of these babies. It'll be the centerpiece of my home theater system for at least the next 2+ years, regardless of the outcome of the format battle.

I wonder when the XA4 will be coming out? Or is Toshiba letting Onkyo take the high end?

The XA2 is really a great solid built player.

I went to Toshiba's website but only saw an A35 as their top end player. Is the XA2 still being produced?

Only by Onkyo and it is called the DV-HD805. It has been refined a little more and is the absolute best HD DVD player available.

I just bought a second XA2 for use as a backup. At least this news makes me feel better about my decision.

Yes, I have the A35 and I am loving it.
I wonder when Toshiba will bring out their 4th Gen players

I own the XA2, and I've been enjoying it immensly for over one year now. It's one of the best A/V components I've ever owned. Great HD DVD player, hands down the best DVD player I've ever owned, and also one of the best CD players I've ever owned.

I really haven't taken the time to research the Onkyo, what refinements have they supposedly made? I was thinking of picking up another XA2, but maybe I'd go for that Onkyo instead?

I see that on the BD side only LGBH200 has won. It will be interesting to see which BD players will win this years award.

Upscaled audio and video processors/circuits. My 805 is awesome and both my neighbor and I believe it to do better on both audio and video than his XA2.

Question

Yes, the XA2 is a very nice product. I too own one, and have owned it for around a year.

Do any of you play, (who own the XA2) or have played, recorded DVD's in your player ? i.e. DVD+R's ? I have a bunch, but I use my old DVD player to play them thus far, I'm afraid to harm my now "award winning" HD DVD player, ha ha ! I hope to have it for many years to come.

peace
