Have to say, this is a great thread. Very informative.
I found the recommended burning utility on the first post a great tool. Works fantastic and free! Thanks again, and thanks Cass for making a sticky of this!

I thought I might just add to this post, even though most may know this, Toshiba will actually mail you a current firmware disk free of charge on request...eliminating the need to do your own download and burn or ethernet connection.
If you are buying online and waiting for the player anyway, this may be a good option. I called them on Monday(12/10) and they had them in stock and said it should only be 2-5 days to get it....we'll see. You can call (800) 319-6684 and they will ship you one ....I have found Toshiba to be pretty helpful thus far. |

I have an A20 connected to my home network. My router is a Linksys wrtgs with DD-WRT firmware loaded. In the DHCP screen for the HD-DVD , DHCP is on with the below settings;
IP Add:192.168.1.129 Subnet: 255.255.255.0 Gateway: 192.168.1.1 DNS: ON DNS Server: 192.168.1.1 I can't get the DVD to aquire new firmware through my broadband connection. I can see the DVD player when accessing my routers configuration utility. What am I missing? I still have the original firmware of 1.0/T20T loaded. |

![]() Did you enter those numbers or did you let them auto fill based on HDCP & DNS being set to on? If you DID let them auto fill (populate), then try turning your player off, count to 10 then turn on again and try it. The instructions stated to do this power cycle, but many people forget this part. Good luck & Merry Christmas!

Yes, I selected DHCP and it populated the numbers. My only concern should the DNS be the gateway IP (192.168.1.1) be that or the DNS from my service provider? I have cycled power to the unit to make sure the changes held but still no download???? Thanks for the reply=)

Just got a Toshiba HD-DVD player for the holidays. HD-A3KU model number. I hooked it up to the internet to download the firmware update about 2 hours ago. It started downloading saying 1/39, 2/39 etc...(i have DSL) Then the display on the player changed to 10004050. What does this mean? I called Toshiba and they said it takes a long time to install, but the website says 20 to 30 minutes.
Help! |

I find the ethernet very convenient for the downloads, typically <30 minutes, and having just one connection for that and for web-enabled material. The less interaction the better I like it.

tried doing the firmware update last night and now the HDA35 wont play on the DIGITALIN2 input - it plays fuzzy on the Video1 which is wrong.
I followed the steps but couldn't get a connection after like 5 attempts. Got pissed and stopped. Replugged the HDMI to TV and player but no picture showed up under DIGITALIN2 ![]() Am I screwed or what>?

guys I need help here. I got a new A35 to replace the old one and tried to do the firmware update again.
This time I connected straight to the Linksys router to try and get a connection. I went thru all the DNS settings and CONFIRMED the ports, etc and hit ok. It assigned the web address just fine at this point. Powered down as directed and on. When I goto the Maintenance section and hit update, agree to terms, etc, it still says CAN NOT FIND SERVER. Damn! What the hell is happening? I confirmed all the settings were on - server, cookies, ports, etc but nothing. Incidently, when I go to Update it says 1.3/1.1 - whats this mean in terms of the current version? Do I just call Toshiba for the damn CD? If so do I just run it in the player for the update? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well it sounds like you did everything right but as far as the update, version 1.3 is the latest out right now for the A35. If you want to stay up do date with them just go to .... http://www.tacp.toshiba.com/hddvd/ and click on the "support" button up top and you will be given a list of the newest updates for all the HD DVD players. Here you can either choose to download the file and burn it on a cd or try the internet connection. I've come to find out the players have their quirks sometimes and maybe it was just congestion from all the new HDDVD owners. All I had to do was enable my DHCP and DNS then click "confirm", shut down then power up again and my internet connection was fine. Hope this helps.

Hooked up our HD-A3 on Xmas morning.
Disconnected the ethernet from the XBox. It linked up no problems and did the 39 step process in about 15 minutes. Works great. |
