How To Update The Firmware On Your Toshiba HD DVD Player - For New Owners

Well i got my hd-a35 today and went ahead and did a firmware update to 1.3. Now i noticed that my Tranformers and Chuck and Larry movies do not want to access the web-enabled features. I get the following error messages upon loading the disc

Transformers-"Cannot play the disc Error Code:408bc00d"
I checked the disc and its scratch free.
Chuck and Larry- Error try again or exit with code "net0112"

I have to say that the "Loading screen" appears for a few seconds then these errors come up. I hope this player doesn't have anything wrong with it as these discs were working great with my A2.

What do you all think has anybody had these types of things happen as well and hopefully fixed them?

I had to re-set the internet setting when i did the 2nd to last update
for some reason it set everything back to default

I had this error when I was downloading a huge file at the same time. I stopped the download and the web update went through and started playing.

HD-A3 1.3 firmware

Well I double checked my settings and they are identical to the HD-A2 settings for my internet. My A2 still brings up the web-enabled features seems that my A35 doesn't want to or has some kind of issues. Should i return it for another one and say it is broken. I mean it can detect the server easy enough for a firmware update but just not on the movies.

OK Just got my web-enabled features to work! I ended up deleting everything in my persistent memory and then shutting down and restarting my player. Hope this helps anybody else if they have the same problems. I am finally happy with my purchase and the bitstream output to my onkyo 705 receiver is awesome even though its suppose to sound the same as PCM my DD+ and DolbyTrueHD light finally lights up.

I was going to suggest you delete the persistent storage and then power down also.

We just purchased an A3 for my father for Christmas. I am planning on/hoping to update the firmware when we set it up via ethernet.

Since I have their network set up with MAC filtering, is there a way to find out the MAC address of the player (I am guessing it has one).

I guess alternatively I could just turn off the filtering for a while on the router.

I have MAC filtering turned on also. Every network device MUST have a MAC address. You just need to go to the network setup screen and it lists it there.

Having some trouble updating the firmware on my A3. When I hook up my ethernet cable from my modem to my DVD player it gives the IP address and the other info, but it does not give the server info. Need some help. Thanks guys/gals.

Welcome to the forum!

This is what I said when I replied to to your PM:

Make sure you have DNS set to ON and you then move the cursor to highlight the CONFIRM button in yellow and press enter. Then exit out of the setup screens and power down your player. After you turn it back on you should be fine.

It is important to follow each step in the excellent post by Midnight! If you leave something as simple as not pressing enter on the confirm button or not doing a power of then on cycle it will not work correctly.

Just to add:

Are you are connecting it directly to the cable modem? If so, it sounds like you need to get a broadband router and connect the modem to THAT and then run an Ethernet cable to both the computer & A3. Some cable and even more DSL modems cannot work directly to the device and need a router between the modem & the device.

I might add that it is good protection for your computer to have a modem NOT connected directly to your computer because it makes you more vulnerable web attacks without it.
