Wal Mart to break the $200 barrier at B&M

I posted this at AVS so I am just going to copy and paste:

I can confirm this. Went back to work today and a new Toshiba UPC popped up in my system:

Toshiba HDA2-W $198.00

Wal Mart item number: 564786/570634

Now I work in a store in the woods of east Texas that usually doesnt receive higher end merchandise. I find the two different item numbers kind of odd. The numbers are cross referenced so the onhands/orders/units sold will always be the same. But usually two numbers are cross referenced if they the same basic item with a different model number or some sort of "free" offer with one of them.

Another observation: I am receiving 3 tonight with 14 more on order for my store. Some promo is obviously coming down the pipe since this item is not on my new modular update for DVD players due this week.

Use the WM item numbers to call and verify with your local WM if you like.

Whoa! I really hope this is true! Seeing a genuine(not a Chinese) Toshiba HD-DVD player selling for $200 would be incredible, especially at a B&M store.

Call your local WM and ask them to run those item numbers in their SMART system.

This stands to reason as Walmart has stated that they would only carry a name brand HD DVD player. And I'm sure that Toshiba needs to clean out what ever remaining inventories there are of the Gen 2 players.

I noticed a $200 Toshiba HD-DVD player when I was at Wal-Mart yesterday. Looked like it was the HD-D1, though. Still, having any HD-DVD player at the price level would certainly help out.

It looks like the model number is the same, but Wal-Mart's item number is different.

I went to the Wal-Mart Super Centre in my area and the HD DVD section made me sick to my stomach. They had a very large Transformers Section right in front of the main doors but not a HD DVD version in site, so I went to the Electronics section and their HD DVD section was complete junk. The same old movies as they had 2 months ago. They even stole 2 shelves which belong to HD DVD with its logo and put BD movies on them. WTF?

They also had the same old RCA HD DVD player (a repackaged HD-A1 Player) for $459 ??? Who on earth is going to buy this rip off of a priced player? No wonder Wal-Mart here is telling me that Hi Def player & movie sales are doing poorly.

I am going to e-mail Wal-Mart Head Office ASAP about this trash. Even the clerks are telling people that HD DVD & Blu-Ray are 100% compatible with each other.

JUST GOT OFF THE PHONE WITH MY FRIEND WHO'S WORKING TODAY, ALSO AT THE ELECTORNICS DEPT. HE CHECKED THE SMART (WALMART COMPUTER) SYSTEM. THEY HAVE 30 OF EACH SKU # ORDERED. IN TOTAL 60 HD-A2 PLAYER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AT $198 EACH!!!! SHOULD BE ARRIVING SHORTLY. HA THERE'S UR PROOF. WHEN THEY COME IN I'LL TAKE PIC AND UPLOAD ASAP!

Numbers are all cross referanced. His store is receiving 30 total players. Also another note: a third cross referanced item number dropped, the HDA2-C.

I went up to my SUPER Wal-Mart yesterday and they don't have ANY HD-DVD players. Are only certain stores going to carry them?
