Default Xbox "360 hd dvd player worth it?

Sup fellas,I'm thinking about buying the 360 Hd player and just wanted to know if it's worth it? I have a sammy 46" slimfit 720p and i use my 360 as my Dvd player. Is the picture that big of a difference?
I saw one at gamestop for $125 used. but the reps said that it's not worth. Can i get some feed back on this Product please. Thanks!

For $125 I would say it is definately worth it. You will notice a pretty big diff playing HD DVD's over SD DVD's on it. And it will eliminate the wear and tear on your 360 drive playing SD DVD's. If you have your 360 connected via HDMI or VGA, the drive does a good job at upconverting SD DVD's as well. Even if you only have it connected via component, SD DVD's still look very good. Do they offer any free HD DVD's with that? It came with KK and a remote when I got mine a year ago so hopefully you get that. Now the addon is $179 new with remote and a mail in rebate for 5 free HD DVD's. I prefer the Toshiba stand alone player over the addon since they are almost half the price now vs. this time last year (around $250 for the A2), but $125 is a great way to get you feet wet into HD DVD...

Worth it as far as HD DVD looking far better than DVD? Yes.

Worth it at its full price in comparison to the A2? Not in my opinion. If I was buying today, I'd spend the extra for the stand alone player. While I've had great luck with my 360, I see no reason to put the extra workload on it if it can be avoided.

But overall - Yes the 360 HD DVD add on is worth it. Picture and audio quality is great. I haven't had any issues with and it whatsoever.

For 125 I'd say it is worth it.. Definitely the cheapest way in. I wonder if they would still honor the 5 free movie offer on a used unit though?

The 360 add on is a great product and entry way into HD DVD. If you already play movies on your 360 like I do, having the add on is a really nice bonus. I actually paid $250 for mine a while back and absoluetly no regrets.

Only thing is that 125 sounds a bit high , because there are regular promotions where they give away like 5 free movies. You should get a new one for 179 and get the free movies.

There is a cosiderable difference between standard DVD's and HD DVD's esp when you start getting toward the 50" video screen size.

HD DVD is also great through xbox live because you get all the firmware updates.

In a year or so I hope to get a stand alone combo drive and play some Blu Ray movies, but for now this is plenty good and HD DVD does have a pretty good selection of movies to choose from.

The Reps don't know what they are talking about. it's 100% worth to even get a Brand New one, I've been using my XBOX 360 HD DVD player thought my PC & it rocks. I do not even have a XBOX 360 gaming machine. Good Luck, it really is that good IMO.

definitely worth it, even if GLOW comes on in a little bit and starts bagging on the audio. it does not support lossless audio tracks due to the lack of hdmi 1.3 on the 360, but it probably isn't a big deal to you. i would buy it new if i were you to get king kong, the remote, and the 5 free mail in offer.

I've had one and sold it... i was very happy with the video and audio quality, but after a while the picture began to stutter, and had kind of shaky camera movements. Microsoft told me to clean up the cache, wich i did, but that didn't help. Then they told me to whipe the whole hard disc clean, wich i did not do, because then i would lose all my data, savegames etc... Now i'm going to buy a stand alone Toshiba player. I can only hope that the problem wasn't with my tv(a brand new Samsung le 32r81)

Well, I took the HD DVD drive out of the XBOX 360 HD DVD player's Enclosure.
I then hooked the drive up via IDE (I needed a Laptop To IDE Hard Drive Adapter).
I use my ATI Radeon HD 2600XT GDDR4 Graphics Card full 1080p HDMI connection. My system is full HDCP compliant.

I have had some problems with the 360 hd dvd player, on most hd dvd's the picture doesn't run fluid, it kind of stops now and then, especially on long camera pan's, i have a samsung le32r81... it bothered me so much i've sold it. I now am going to buy a Tosh EP30

First of all, don't listen to anything said by a gamestop employee. They are typically bottom of the barrel morons who got fired from their computer programming jobs because they were caught play World of Warcraft all day. On a 46" HDTV, an HD-DVD player will make a world of difference. You just have to buy/rent HD-DVD's from now on
