My mission around here 90% of the time is trying to clean up all of the misinformation that gets posted. You know- things like, "MGS4 is delayed until 2008" - when it's not established as fact yet. Then I get to spend about 10% of my time screwing off. I'd like for it to be 90% screwing off and 10% cleaning up the mess- but we can't always get what we want, can we?

It's the same story for MS's Xbox division, which has done nothing but lose money every year since it was formed. The bleeding isn't as bad for the most recent quarter as it was for Sony- but it's still worth noting that Nintendo's the only console brand pulling in a profit right now.

MGS4 will come out when Kojima's ready- not when Sony is. The problem Sony faces is that MGS is Konami and Kojima's property- Konami's a third party, it's not like MS's relationship with Bungie. There has been plenty of buzz about the game and some lengthy videos showing off cinematics and gameplay- but you're correct to point out that things have gone quiet recently. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see it pushed back to 2008- I just think it's irresponsible for a member here to post such a thing as if it's established fact until, well...it actually is.

If thats the case, then I think Sony could be in trouble as I know many analysts are waiting for the results of the next holiday season before picking sides. They better find a way to perform an agressive price cut if that's the case, especially when BDP purists are likely going to start opting for these new $600 BDP's hitting the market. That means PS3 sales could fall even more. It would further add salt to an open wound if Microsoft found a way to finallly get MSG4 or FF to go multiplatform. I don't know if it will happen as Kojima is aggressively in the PS3 camp, but money talks in this industry. At least with Square, EA is one of their bigger shareholders and could use their influence to help get the FF series multiplatform.

Sony could be in trouble regardless. I'd caution against hinging everything on the success or failure of one game. I think the price cut needs to happen either way.

This is completely empirical- but most gamers I talk to want to get a PS3, but are adamant about waiting for a price drop before taking the plunge.

I can't imagine there won't be price drop to stimulate sales, but if they do, I think Stringer may be hung out to dry.

If you're the fall guy that makes the promise, then it's your head that's going to roll if the promise isn't kept.

I think that the head of ONE of the two format heads is going to roll and maybe both before this is all over. I just looked at Toshiba's financials and they are actually increasing sales, gross profit AND net profit though.

If I had to guess on only one company head to go, it would be Stringer's.

Maybe with how quickly toshiba is getting aggressive on pricing, i'm thinking that it might be a sign that their costs of production are falling faster than we would have expected. I wish we had information a little more specific that would help us figure out what exactly the marginal cost and average costs of producing HD-DVD players are. The only thing we really know right now is that HD-DVD players are selling HOT.

Are you really prepared to look under the bed or are you content to just sleep in it? There a chance that you may not like what is waiting for you under there!

As someone who plans on becoming an Economist in the future, it might as well be good practice to analyze every bit of data you can right now for practice when you can be wrong and not have consequences. Once you get a job analyzing data for a company, your head goes on a stick if you don't perform a market analysis correctly.

Why do you come to this forum? Ever since you first logged onto it you've just tried to crap on the threads (I hope I'm incorrect).

Why don't you contribute some knowledge or at least seek it to expand your knowledge of the equipment/formats available.

But to do that you'll need to at least listen to someone's opinion and if you don't agree, give some rational counter opinions/facts to back it up your disagreement.

When you first showed up I suspected you to be a "Troll", why don't you change my mind and try to help make this forum better and less combative.

Great response Unotis!

That is how we should respond to combative posts.

Agreed! Just be prepared for the the real facts as they may not be what you expect or deep down would like to see!
